Welcome to the
Ncuma Oral Health Foundation!

The Foundation was established in 2007 with the name Philani Oral Health and its objective is to attract funds for the operation of oral health projects in townships in South Africa. In April 2010 the Foundation changed its name to Ncuma Oral Health. Ncuma is Xhosa and means "smile" in English.

The oral health projects involve the dissemination of basic oral hygiene know-how to children and their mothers/caretakers. To facilitate and support this learning procedure, the Foundation is also responsible for the running of dental clinics in the townships.

The Foundation´s first oral health project is located in the Khayelitsha township outside Cape Town and the dental clinic has been built and equipped by funds provided by Rotary. This oral health project is conducted in close cooperation with the Philani Nutrition Center, a well established child health and nutrition organisation in Khayelitsha and the dental clinic is located in Philani´s main building.

The tasks of disseminating basic oral hygiene information as well as the running of dental clinics are supervised and supported by the Faculty of Dentistry, University of the Western Cape and in Sweden by the Institute of Odontology, University of Göteborg and by Region Västra Götaland.

The Foundation gratefully accepts international contributions which can be paid to the Foundation´s bank account (see Contact). The Foundation is subject to the continuous scrutiny of the Swedish Fundraising Control Authority, which guarantees correct management of collected funds.
